Mid-Atlantic Anti-Hunger Coalition (MAAHC)

The New Jersey Anti-Hunger Coalition (NJAHC) also coordinates the efforts of a regional anti-hunger group, the Mid-Atlantic Anti-Hunger Coalition (MAAHC) which seeks to foster collaborations that will address state, regional and national hunger issues, with the overall goal of reducing the number of people who are hungry or food insecure in the region. The Mid-Atlantic region consists of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. Participants are predominantly from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington DC and more recently, Maryland.

MAAHC hosts about 3-4 meetings a year in cities across the region, including one at every national anti-hunger conference. The regional director of USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service is invited to attend meetings to inform members about issues in the region and strategies FNS is employing to enhance participation in both food stamps and the child nutrition programs in the states.

For more information on MAAHC, please contact Adele LaTourette at alatourette@cfanj.org.
